2017 Films

There are still a few big films left to come out in 2016, such as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Moana and Assassins Creed to name a few. 2017 is fast arriving and here is a rundown of some films you might not want to miss.

Kingsman: The Secret Circle – June 16 2017

2017 films

Starting of the list with a big name, this is the sequel to hit film Kingsman: The secret service. Taron Egerton returns as Eggsy as he joins Merlin and Roxy in visiting Statesmen, effectively an US version of Kingsman, to go up against new villain Poppy. The first film perfectly mixed comedy and action, and whilst not much is yet known, it promises to already be great. Channing Tatum is a new face joining the cast along with Halle Berry, both playing Statesmen agents.

Wonder Woman – June 2 2017

Another June film, as DC continues it film revival after Batman v Superman last year, alongside Suicide Squad. It revolves around Wonder Woman, living in Themyscira, away from the events of the world being informed by Steve Trevor of an ongoing world war after he crash lands where she lives. A trailer was released less than a week ago, so make sure to check that out. Gal Gadot reprises her role as Wonder Woman, as a female hero takes centre stage for a nice change.

Beauty and the Beast – March 17 2017

Arguably the most recognisable name on the list, this is a live-action remake of the remarkable Disney film Beauty and the Beast. A slightly controversial entry as the live-action has split fans, just as it did when the Jungle Book was released this year. It follows the same plot of the original and contains a star-studded cast including Emma Watson as Belle,   Ian Mckellen as Cogsworth and Luke Evans as villain Gaston. I am certainly looking forward to seeing Ewan McGregor singing “Be our guest” as Lumiere.

Star Wars Episode VIII – December 15 2017

Don’t worry, I wasn’t going to forget such a popular franchise off this list. After the Force Awakens signalled the long-awaited return of Star Wars, episode 8 will be the sequel to it. Whilst a good job has been done at keeping the plot under wraps, I can say that it continues directly on after the events of the Force Awakens where SPOILER ALERT Rey is able to finally find out where Luke Skywalker is and ended with some shots of Mark Hamill as Luke. It is sure to provide plenty of twists and turns and I definitely won’t be missing it.

MIB 23 – TBA

Yes, this may sound incredibly weird at first, but it will surely be interesting and fun. It is a mash-up between the Men In Black films and the Jump Street films. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum take the main roles as they become alien hunters. It isn’t yet known when it is coming out but mixing two franchises should provide some memorable moments and an entertaining film.

Logan – March 3 2017

The final Hugh Jackman Wolverine film arrived early next year. It takes place after X-Men days of future past where mutant births are becoming more and more rare. This in turn leads to Logan (with help from Charles Xavier) helping a young mutant girl named Laura who is being hunted. It is inspired by the  “Old Man Logan” comic and although announced recently, has some a sublime cover photo.

Jumanji – December 22 2017

Who didn’t love the 1995 film? Robin Williams was perfect for his role in the entertaining board game film. Well, now there is a re-imagining of it starring none other than Dwayne Johnson. Seeing the film next year will be sure to bring back some memories. Two kids accidentally releasing all sorts of dangers along with a trapped man, with the game needing to be finished to stop all the chaos.

Dunkirk – July 2 2017

A gritty film about the evacuation of the Allied soldiers that took place in Dunkirk during World War II. Christopher Nolan directs this war film, which should be more than enough in itself to put your faith into this film. It is an action-thriller and includes familiar faces such as Tom Hardy, Cillain Murphy, Academy Award winner Mark Rylance and perhaps surprisingly Harry Styles.

Justice League -November 17 2017

A big film for DC and a lot of their reputation may rely on this. Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince team up to form a team of superheroes after the actions of Superman at the end of Batman v Superman. The Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman are all heroes recruited into this superhuman league to save the planet. A trailer for this film has also already been released and I encourage you to give that a watch.

Spider-Man: Homecoming – July 7 2017

Spider-man sent the internet into a craze when it was revealed he would be in Captain America: Civil War and he is now getting his very own film. Played by 20-year-old Tom Holland (am I the only one who misses Toby McGuire?), his youth is a large focal point for viewers but it seems the right option. Peter Parker has to try to deal with everyday life and commitments whilst trying to be a superhero. Good luck with that.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead men tell no tales – May 26 2017

Who else could complete this list than CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow. Jack has had no issues in making enemies in the past and this trend continues, this trend continues as he faces new villain Salazar. Salazar wants to kill any and all pirates at sea, resulting in Jack needing to find the Trident of Poseidon so he can have full control over the seas and defeat Salazar.

Honorable mentions:

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

Kong: Skull Island

Fast 8

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Power Rangers
