2019 Week 4 NFL Picks
Standings after Week 3
Brandon Reid: 32-15-1
Dan Schalk: 27-20-1
Eagles at Packers
Dan Schalk: Green Bay Packers. It is the defense that is leading the Packers to an undefeated record. Philadelphia has been wildly inconsistent and on the road on a short week doesn’t bode well for success.
Brandon Reid: Green Bay Packers. The Packers are 3-0 and riding their defense for the first time in, well, ever as far as I can remember. The Eagles continue this trend of slow starts. And it’s once again their defense that has been slow out of the gate. That’s not good when facing a bad man like Aaron Rodgers. The Eagles are 4-0 on Thursday Night football under Pederson however. They were underdogs in 3 of those. Packers are favored by 4.5.
Redskins at Giants
Dan Schalk: New York Giants. I had Daniel Jones as my No.1 quarterback in this year’s draft class–on par with Patrick Mahomes when he was coming out (and was my No.1 QB). Everyone will soon regret all the heat they gave the Giants front office with his selection earlier this year.
Brandon Reid: New York Giants. I’m relying on Daniel Jones and Case Keenum on my fantasy team. That tells you how bad my year is going from a fantasy perspective. But I think the Giants may have found new energy with Jones, and I also really believe in Wayne Gallman. The Giants are actually favored, and that hasn’t happened too often over the last several years.
Titans at Falcons
Dan Schalk: Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta doesn’t really have issues putting up points–and despite the matchup against an elite defensive unit, I just don’t think Mariota and the Tennessee offense can keep up.
Brandon Reid: Atlanta Falcons. I would love to see my Titans win this game. So I’ll pick against them since I have lost every Titans pick this season. But that trend could get bucked this weekend. The Titans offense is god awful and there are many factors. The O-line hasn’t played well without suspended left tackle Taylor Lewan. And Mariota is at a career crossroads game-by-game right now. The defense is doing their job as usual only giving up 17.3 ppg, but the offense can’t find it’s way out of a paper bag. I worry about who exactly is a good offensive mind in the Titans organization right now. I can’t see the Titans being able to keep up with the dirty birds in Atlanta. This will be the best offense the Titans have faced so far this year. The line is 4 for Atlanta.
Chiefs at Lions
Dan Schalk: Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs offense is too good.
Brandon Reid: Kansas City Chiefs. You should know my shtick by now. I’m not picking against the Chiefs all year. I think Mahomes is that good.
Browns at Ravens
Dan Schalk: Baltimore Ravens. Lamar Jackson is a better quarterback than Baker Mayfield right now. The Ravens ground game is more effective and their defense is solid outside of playing Patrick Mahomes. Give me the Ravens.
Brandon Reid: Baltimore Ravens. I am a big believer in the Ravens this year. I didn’t see Lamar Jackson having a sophomore season like this, and Mark Ingram is very underrated. Add in Hollywood Brown, and a stout defense as usual, the Ravens are legit. Should be a good game.
Raiders at Colts
Dan Schalk: Indianapolis Colts. The Colts aren’t elite in any area, but they play solid team football and can win plenty of football games that way.
Brandon Reid: Indianapolis Colts. The Colts are 2-1 and have proven that they were more than just Andrew Luck. They hung with the Chargers in LA, then beat the Titans and Falcons. I’m rolling with them to beat the Raiders.
Patriots at Bills
Dan Schalk: New England Patriots. Bills mafia believes the team will win on Sunday. They are wrong.
Brandon Reid: New England Patriots. I really like what the Bills did in the off-season, and this is a solid team that still needs time to come together. But the Patriots are ridiculous right now. They’ve given up only 17 points through three games. That’s less than two FG’s per contest. They are also giving up less than 200 yards per game! WHAT??? I don’t really think Brady cares who he has to throw to anymore, let’s just go get another ring. I can’t pick against the Patriots right now, but Buffalo will make this a game, maybe even pull off a huge win.
Panthers at Texans
Dan Schalk: Houston Texans. Kyle Allen is better than an injured Cam Newton–however, I do not have them on par with the Texans on any level.
Brandon Reid: Houston Texans. I just don’t believe in anything the Panthers have going on right now except Mr. Do It All, Christian McCaffrey. Without Cam, I can’t buy them. Beating the Cardinals does nothing to persuade me otherwise.
Chargers at Dolphins
Dan Schalk: Los Angeles Chargers. I don’t plan on picking the Dolphins to win a game this season.
Brandon Reid: Los Angeles Chargers. I heard they were playing Miami. So that’s a win.
Buccaneers at Rams
Dan Schalk: Los Angeles Rams. Tampa Bay just can’t do anything right and they are trending downwards. Enter Los Angeles–not good news.
Brandon Reid: Los Angeles Rams. This should be a pretty easy game in which the Rams do anything they want to on offense.
Seahawks at Cardinals
Dan Schalk: Seattle Seahawks. The Cardinals just lack the overall talent on both sides of the ball to keep up with Seattle.
Brandon Reid: Seattle Seahawks. I don’t see this being the week that Arizona gets their first win. Good luck to the rookie head coach, with his rookie QB, going against Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson.
Vikings at Bears
Dan Schalk: Chicago Bears. The Bears defense is beyond legit and Trubisky gets too much of the blame when the offense doesn’t succeed. Oh and Kirk Cousins can’t beat good football teams.
Brandon Reid: Minnesota Vikings. I feel like Minnesota hasn’t even had to have a complete game yet. They fell against the Packers yes, but they have weapons that aren’t even getting in on the action yet like Stefon Diggs and Kyle Rudolph. Cook is a top back in the NFL and Alexander Mattison is doing a great job spelling him. If Minnesota can continue to gel, they could win the division over the 3-0 Packers.
Jaguars at Broncos
Dan Schalk: Jacksonville Jaguars. I like the swag Gardner Minshew is bringing to the Jaguars offense—now if Leonard Fournette can please do something, that would be great for my fantasy team(s). I think the Jags pull it off this week.
Brandon Reid: Denver Broncos. Welcome to Mile High, Gardner Minshew. You’ll either hate it, or love it. But it’s never an easy place to play. The Jags defense destroyed Tennessee a week ago, but don’t expect a performance like that every week. I think this is the week that the Broncos finally get in the win column.
Cowboys at Saints
Dan Schalk: Dallas Cowboys. As a Cowboys fan, I’m okay with Drew Brees not playing in this contest. The Dallas defense should be able to slow down Kamara and Thomas and make Bridgewater get some other weapons involved to win–not happening.
Brandon Reid: Dallas Cowboys. If Drew Brees was still out there, I pick the Saints. They are hard to beat WITH Drew Brees in the dome. But the Cowboys are rolling right now. All around. I know their schedule isn’t the best to this point, but they are dominating and putting the bad teams away. The line is only 2.5 for Dallas. That surprises me. I see Dallas winning by at least a touchdown.
Bengals at Steelers
Dan Schalk: Cincinnati Bengals. This is coin flip game. I want to pick the Steelers at home, on Monday night. I just can’t.
Brandon Reid: Cincinnati Bengals. The Steelers are just a terrible towel mess right now. I feel bad for Mike Tomlin. They could steal this one, but I just don’t know if they can get up for it right now. They are favored by 4, but I don’t see it happening. I guess it all depends on the tone of practice this week.
