Jimmy GaroppoloThe San Francisco 49ers picked up their first win of the 2017 season yesterday, beating the Giants 31-21. The victory was thanks in large part to rookie QB CJ Beathard, who completed 19-of-25 passes for 288 yards and 2 touchdowns–he also added 15 yards on the ground with a score.

Recently acquired Jimmy Garoppolo continued to be the second-string quarterback, something head coach Kyle Shanahan does not plan on changing anytime soon.

Shanahan told reporters after Sunday’s game that speculation Garoppolo would start in two weeks, following this week’s bye, is incorrect.

“That’s not my plan,” Shanahan said. “I don’t have a plan yet. There’s no way anything you guys hear reported could be accurate, because I just told you guys our plan.”

So it seems likely that Garoppolo will sit and wait. At some point the 49ers want to see what the guy they just spent a second-round pick on can do, but not at the cost of benching a rookie who’s playing well. And if some reports of flipping Jimmy G in the offseason are correct–we may never see him play a snap for the 49ers.
