5 Overreactions to yesterday’s NFL Preseason games
Most NFL teams have finished their first preseason game, giving fans the first look at what they have to offer in 2017. For some teams and players they opened eyes with their play–others made the fans close their eyes and shiver.
Throughout it all, I have heard some fairly insane reactions from the fans about their teams–some good, some bad, but funny enough to share with the world. All five of these overreactions were publicly shared on social media platforms–I will hide the names of the people who actually said these insane statements out of respect for their craziness….
1. Nathan Peterman is the next Tom Brady!
–Uhh, no he’s not. In the Bills 17-10 loss to the Vikings on Thursday night, Peterman was the most impressive Bills quarterback, completing 13 of 25 passes for 112 yards and one touchdown, but to be fair–the Bills aren’t oozing with QB talent on their roster. Peterman is not, and will never be the next Tom Brady.
Overreaction grade: 10/10
2. Mitchell Trubisky deserves to be No.1 on the depth chart
—Trubisky did have a fantastic first game with the Bears, completing 18 of 25 passes for 166 yards and one touchdown. Mike Glennon on the other hand struggled, completing 2 out of his 8 passes for 20 yards with one interception. At first glance you would assume this would help Trubisky’s case–and it certainly does, but that doesn’t catapult him to number one on the depth chart. It is still preseason, where defensive coordinators rarely blitz and show manila coverages throughout the game. If this type of performance happens in every preseason game, then you may have a case for Trubisky, but until then, calm down.
Overreaction grade: 5/10
3. New England is going to be bad this year, they lost to JACKSONVILLE!
–This one made me literally LOL. The Pats didn’t play any of their top guys including Brady, Cooks, Edelman, Gillislee, White–the list goes on. The Jags looked decent, specifically third-string running back Corey Grant who rushed for 130 yards and one score, but he might not even make the 53-man roster. In a regular season game the Pats would win 99 out of 100 times.
Overreaction grade: 10/10
4. The Redskins offense is really bad
–The Redskins did not look good in their 23-3 loss to the Ravens, but Kirk Cousins only attempted two passes barely playing in the game. What does concern me a bit if I were a Redskins fan is the running game. Matt Jones had -1 yards rushing and promising rookie Samaje Perine mustered 15 yards on six carries good for 2.5 YPC. Washington will bounce-back when they actually have a full complement of starters on the field.
Overreaction grade: 6/10
5. DeShone Kizer should start Week 1 for the Browns
–Kizer was impressive in his first taste of NFL action, completing 11 of 18 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown. Granted, it was against scrubs on the Saints defense, but it showed his potential. With that being said, I don’t think Kizer will be ready Week 1 as the Browns starter–they aren’t winning any playoff games this season, but you don’t want to ruin Kizer’s potential by throwing him out to the wolves when the regular season rolls around.
Overreaction grade: 7/10
