A Green Lantern confirmed to shine in Justice League film
Since we first heard about DC and Warner Bros. cinematic line up and that there would be not only a Justice League film but a Green Lantern Corps as well, we’ve been expecting a new take on Green Lantern and hopefully a movie that will redeem the first take a the Green Lantern that starred Ryan Reynolds version in 2011.
Last year we saw the encrypted files in Batman v Superman of several DC superhero and a few months after that we got a glimpse at the first trailer of the upcoming Justice League film. Seeing the cast assembled for the upcoming film (Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, The Flash and Superman) we all asked the question of where is the Green Lantern? Looking at not only the founding members of the original Justice League comics (excluding Martian Manhunter being replaced with Cyborg)(First appearance The Brave and the Bold Vol. 1, issue #28, Feb.-Mar. 1960),
but also the Cartoon Network adaptations as Justice League (Nov. 2001), Justice League unlimited (July 2004) and even in more recent version such as Young Justice (Nov. 2010) and the new DC animated extend universe’s New 52 reimagining. It seemed odd that the Green Lantern was left out of the conversation being such a big part of the team’s formation and an essential member.
The Green Lantern Corps film doesn’t come out until 2020, but according to reporter Umberto Gonzalez, there will be a Green Lantern sighting in 2017’s Justice League. On a recent periscope video, he was asked about the Lanterns, where he said “Yes. There is a Green Lantern in Justice League. I forgot how to pronounce him. I forgot the name of the Green Lantern in Justice League, so we’ll see. Hey, maybe by that time they get to cast Hal Jordan and next we’ll throw him in there too who knows.”
A few fans threw out possible names, to which he responded “Kilowog. No, it’s not Kilowog. It’s a funny sounding, I’ll give you a hint it’s a funny sounding name. I’m like okay, better not cast Tyrese. It is confirmed that Green Lantern, a Green Lantern will be in Justice League. I don’t want to give you the spoiler obviously, but yes, there is a Green Lantern.”
