The only team to beat Houston Astros ace Dallas Keuchel this season is the Baltimore Orioles. While the Orioles did not add another loss to Keuchel’s record, they did their job and came away victorious beating the Astros 3-2 on Thursday.

Keuchel was coming off of back-to-back complete games, but was not able to make it three in-a-row leaving after six innings of work, tossing 108 pitches, allowing two runs while striking out seven batters. It was another quality start for Keuchel, who has not pitched less than six innings in any start this season. With a 1.76 ERA, he leads the American League and should be named the AL starting pitcher in the mid-summer classic.

The Orioles were fueled by Adam Jones who went 3-for-4 scoring two runs, including smacking the eventual game-winning solo shot in the eighth inning off of Houston reliever Chad Qualls with the game tied at two. Jones was 2-for-11 with zero RBI and five strikeouts in the previous three games against the Astros in this series, but provided a much-needed offensive boost to his team that was averaging a little over two-runs per game.

The Orioles pitching staff was led by starter Wei-Yin Chen who lasted 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, fanning nine Astros, but like Keuchel did not factor into the decision. Darren O’Day won his second game of the season in relief for the Orioles, pitching one inning that saw him walk two batters, before registering three outs and giving way to closer Zach Britton who recorded a five-out save, his 14th save of the season.

Stat of the game: The Astros had countless opportunities to capitalize, but failed to do so going 0-for-8 with RISP, stranding seven runners on-base.

Both teams will be on the road this weekend as the Orioles head to Cleveland to begin a three-game set against the Indians, and the Astros travel north of the border to take on the Toronto Blue Jays.
