It came as no surprise yesterday when the Dallas Cowboys announced that the 14-year gunslinger Tony Romo will be released by 4 P.M. ET on Thursday. After suffering a back injury last year in the 3rd game of the pre-season after taking a blind side hit by Cliff Avril, Romo stood along the sidelines as he watched rookie Dak Prescott lead the team to the playoffs, and now we are here. This isn’t what Romo hoped for, as he wanted to take the Cowboys to the Super Bowl at least once, before he retires as a Cowboy. Instead injuries loom over him at the moment, and now the soon to be 38-year old looks to jump into a Super Bowl contending team to start the 2017 season.

The Houston Texans and Denver Broncos look to be the more realistic suitors for Romo, but numerous questions come to mind with both teams. What well the Broncos do with Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch? It’s hard to see Siemian sticking around if Romo takes the Peyton Manning route and comes to town, and with the Texans, they thought they had it all figured out as they assumed they were winning last year when it came to signing Brock Osweiler, but now they find themselves in the same situation. Looking for help at the quarterback position.

Even if another team makes a splash, and attempts to snatch Romo there’s no question that they all will stop and glance at his history when it comes to injury, but then again it wasn’t that long when Tony Romo was the hottest QB in the league in 2014 and for a team looking to win now, they won’t waste time if the price is right. Romo knows that he’s going to take a pay-cut wherever he goes, but has acknowledged that money isn’t an issue, and that him getting one more chance to prove himself and hopes of making another deep playoff run is all that he can ask for.
