Last week on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fitz shocked everyone by killing Agnes. We also found Mack and Mace in The Framework and Daisy became a prisoner of Hydra. This week, a familiar face returned and one gives their life. Here’s what happened in episode 18, entitled “No Regrets”.

The episode kicked off with Phil and the Patriot high-jacking a Hydra prison bus hoping to find Daisy, only to discover several bodies. On the mission, Mace expresses his suspicions about Jemma to Phil. At the Triskelion, Fitz questions a bloody and bruised Daisy about the Patriot’s location. We also learn that Hydra is prepping to debut a formula that can turn the user into a weapon to face the Patriot. May volunteers to test it out.

When Phil returns, he tells Jemma about Mace’s suspicions and not to tell them that they’re in a virtual reality. She tells both Mace and Ward anyway, but they don’t believe her.

AIDA finally comes face to face with Daisy. She tells Daisy that she will bring back Lincoln in The Framework if Daisy reveals where she and Jemma are in the real world. Daisy refuses and says that sometimes what you want isn’t what’s best for you. The agent also tries to understand what AIDA gets out of The Framework.

Fitz’ life in The Framework expands when he has a conversation with a man about his troubles. He turns out to be Leo’s father. Papa Fitz is played by David O’Hara. Fitz expresses guilt over killing Agnes, but his father tells him he’s doing the right thing. There’s a brief mention of his mother, who apparently has better morals than his father.

In their cells, Radcliffe and Daisy speak through the apparently paper thin walls. He expresses sadness about how The Framework turns out. He also gives her instructions on how to get to the back door he built in the program.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
BJ Britt as Antoine Triplett

The agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. waste no time going after Hydra again. Mace and Coulson get into a Hydra detention center to release prisoners. One of those prisoners is Antoine Triplett. In the virtual reality world, he’s S.H.I.E.L.D.’s inside man at Hydra. Trip grabs his boots that have photographic evidence of his undercover work. Before they leave, Coulson sees his student Chris being taken into another building and goes after him.

May arrives juiced up on Hydra’s new formula but is quickly defeated by the Patriot who runs into the building. She calls it in and Fitz and AIDA use a quinjet to launch an attack. The blast destabilizes the building and Ward, Jemma, and Trip runs back inside to get as many kids out as they can. May follows and is surprised to find kids inside. She finds the others who tell her to shoot them or help.

The Patriot holds up a falling beam, saving Chris, and keeping the building standing. He sacrifices himself so the others and May can get out alive. The event causes May to see Hydra, the Patriot, and the other agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a new light. At Hydra, Fitz, AIDA, and his father toast the victory. But downstairs in the containment area, May, having returned from the mission, breaks a terrigen crystal in Daisy’s cell beginning her terrigenesis again.

Final thoughts on this week’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Twitter went crazy when BJ Britt returned as Trip. The character has been missed since his death in season two. The reveal of Fitz’ father was a nice twist. Season four has definitely been a breath of fresh air for the series. The death of Mace is sad, but I will admit that I wasn’t attached to him as I was other characters. May switching sides is a relief. Now, to get in Fitz’ head. It’ll be a hard task with both his father and AIDA whispering in his ear.

I’m giving this episode a 10/10. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on ABC Tuesday at 10 PM EST.
