‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Recap and Review: “Code Yellow”
Last time we chatted Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Mack and Dr. Benson discover that Sarge and his team probably destroyed the last planet they were on. Elsewhere Fitz, Enoch, Daisy, and Jemma find themselves on Kitson, space’s Vegas. Jemma and Fitz reunite for a second before Fitz is snatched by a hunter Chronicom who is after him since he’s breaking the rules by still being alive. Here’s a recap of episode four, “Code Yellow”.
An Old Friend
We kick things off revisiting Deke, Jemma and Fitz’ grandson from the future. He’s head of a cause-based game start-up that features frameworks in their office. Their goal is to create a future where people don’t starve by creating a food pellet. He’s using all kind of future tech in his work. When Sarge shows up in his office, there’s a lot of confusion. Deke soon starts to realize that something isn’t right when Coulson is vague in his answers about his team and Fitzsimmons. He makes up a fake agent, but Sarge acts like he knows the person. Deke stabs him in his hand and runs when he sees it’s real and not mechanical like the real Coulson. Sarge’s team realize Deke isn’t from this world, but his signature is different. They plan to capture him for answers before killing him.
Back at S.H.I.E.L.D., Mack hints to Agent Keller that he already knows he and YoYo are a couple. YoYo walks in on them chatting, but they brush by it and focus on their work, finding out what Sarge and his team are after. They don’t know until later that they’ve already killed a man and are closing in on Deke. The police find the body and call on the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to handle it. During an autopsy, Dr, Benson realizes their victim has been implanted with a parasite.
It turns out that Mack sent an agent to pose at Deke’s assistant. Agent Khan calls in May and Mack, while the parasite gets free in the S.H.I.E.L.D. base. Deke is sad when he doesn’t see his grandparents or Daisy around. Back at HQ, YoYo and co. look for the parasitic creature. It finds them and dives down Keller’s throat. While he suffers and Benson tries to save him, Mack and May head into to face Sarge and his team. Deke ends up heading back into the building when his social media influencer girlfriend, Sequoia, comes back from getting boba tea. Sequoia is played by one of the show’s writers and producers, Maurissa Tancharoen. Sequoia thinks everyone is playing a game until she calls Deke and he tells her what’s going on.
Mack runs through just in time to save the duo. While Agent Khan escorts to safety, Deke and Mack lead Jaco into a framework simulation that features Daisy in her skintight suit, showing some cleavage. Elsewhere, Sarge and Snow take May hostage and roll out. Back at HQ, YoYo has no choice but to use Sarge’s blade to kill Keller after the parasite takes over his body and tries to destroy the base.
Final take on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6, Episode 4
It was good to see Deke again since I’ve been wondering what he’s been up to. You would think after last season the team would be a little more careful about letting somewhere from the future out into the general public and potentially change the future. While Sequoia was kind of airheaded it was hilarious to see Maurissa step even more into her creation. Overall, it was a good episode but I was a little bummed to see Keller go out so early in the season. To set up YoYo and Mack’s split and introduce a new love interest only to take him in episode four seems like a shallow plot. Sure, it’ll be nice to see if YoYoMack work their way back to each other, but Keller shouldn’t have had to be killed off for that to happen. I’m also interested to see if and how May impacts Sarge.
I’m giving “Code Yellow” an 8 out of 10.
