‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Recap and Review’: “Collision Course Part 1”
Last week on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Mack unwillingly looks to Sarge for help after he and the other members of S.H.I.E.L.D. get in over their head. Out in space, Fitzsimmons gets out of a tight situation and part ways with Enoch. They head back to earth with a mysterious woman named Izel. This week, Sarge’s “compromise” with S.H.I.E.L.D. is put to the test and things get dicey during episode 8, “Collision Course Part 1”. Here’s a recap and review of last night’s episode.
Mack and Sarge begrudgingly team up to bring an end to the Shrike and their creator. Mack allows Sarge to take only one of his team members as well as May and Daisy. Sarge wants nothing to do with the two women but takes them along. Daisy rides up front and points out that he and Coulson have the same DNA.
Sarge ignores the comment and reveals that everyone he cares about is gone and the monster’s name is Izel. In the air, Mack and the other agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. follow Sarge in the Zephyr, hoping to keep track what’s going on in secret.
Approaching earth, Fitzsimmons learn from Izel that she’s after the monoliths, known to her by another name. She claims they were stolen from her homeworld and that someone aka Sarge wants to kill her because she knows what he really is. The science couple has no idea that she is the creator of the Shrike and is causing mayhem on their planet. They also don’t know that she is making her way through the crew and infecting them with Shrike while Fitz expresses jealousy over his other self who got to marry Jemma.
An Ancient Evil?
In the Zephyr, Mack and YoYo examine a report from one of their agents. It shows an ancient temple. According to the story that goes along with the temple, Izel broke free from the realm of darkness. They question Pax and Jaco, but they’re not saying anything except that they should turn around. In the truck, Daisy and May find Deke and Snow in a compromising position before Sarge threatens him over their malfunctioning Shrike repellant.
At their destination, a crowd of Shrike infected host gather and turn into the crystal pillars, creating a tower. The tower draws power from the earth and threatens to release a swarm of Shrike across the planet, destroying it. May and Daisy aren’t too keen on Sarge’s plan to stab Izel with his “magical” sword.
Aboard the Zephyr, Pax kills the guard and sets Jaco free but YoYo manages to handle the pair. Pax reveals that Sarge has a weapon that will seriously impact the earth and he’s afraid of flying into the blast zone.
Sarge is all about a small price for the greater good, turning on the auto-drive and rolling out after activating a bomb in the truck. He leaves Snow behind, pissing her off. Using the same device used to break into the jewelry store, Sarge creates a portal that ends up being drawn in Jaco’s jacket. This places him in the Zephyr where Mack has to make a decision about the incoming ship and Sarge’s truck barrelling towards it. Deke manages to find the bomb but they have no idea how to turn it off or get rid of it.
Aboard the ship, Jemma and Fitz realize the crew is MIA as Izel and the possessed hosts march through the halls. On Kitson, Enoch reaches out to another Chronicom to gather to others. Elsewhere, the other Chronicoms begin a separate scheme involving going into Fitzsimmon’s minds.
Final take on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 608 “Collision Course Part 1”
Let me just say, episodes split into two make me nervous because you know you’re getting a cliffhanger. We definitely got one this week. This episode did a great job of heightening the tension even more. There’s some confusion about why Deke and Snow need to bond and “fall in love”. Really that’s neither here nor there when Izel is heading to earth and Sarge is ready to kill plenty of folks to make sure she dies.
I’m interested in the duo’s history and who they really are. Another duo I’m interested in is Mack and YoYo. I’m glad they were able to talk this week and actually make jokes and smile at one another. Poor Fitzsimmons just want to get home and don’t even realize they’re helping someone who’s keen on destroying that home. Can I just say I found it a bit funny that Fitz is jealous of himself?
I’m giving “Collision Course Part 1” a 9 out of 10.
Happy belated birthday to Henry Simmons aka Mack!
