‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Recap and Review: “From the Ashes”
Last week on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Sarge’s history came to light and Izel’s motives were revealed. Last Friday, she uses her newly stolen item to make those who refuse to help her suffer while Daisy deals with the emotional build-up of Coulson’s death. Here’s a recap of episode 10, “From the Ashes”.
With YoYo and Mack on the zephyr with Izel and Dr. Benson, May and rest of the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. work to track them and find a way to stop Izel from body jumping. Daisy wants him to tap into the power Izel says he has, but May is against it. The crew takes turns questioning him, but he refuses to acknowledge any emotional connection to them despite his memories from Coulson’s life becoming stronger.
It isn’t long until Benson is made aware that something isn’t right with the S.H.I.E.L.D. team. While he was telling Mack/Izel his findings, YoYo silently gestures for him not to reveal coordinates. He deletes them from the computer quickly. In response, Izel kills ones of the pilots and forces Benson to see his deceased husband with the monolith energy. She kills him, striking an emotional blow to the doctor. A now emotionally broken Benson seems to fold under the pressure.
Back at the S.H.I.E.L.D. base, Daisy has a hard time dealing with Sarge. Jemma suggests that she never dealt with the emotions of Coulson’s death. Daisy goes back to her room and finally reads a letter Coulson left her. She goes back to Sarge’s cell and snaps his neck after he confirms that his memories become stronger after he was killed by Izel. When he wakes up again, she demands that he shows her who he really is. Power bursts from him and he knocks her back.
On the zephyr, YoYo and Mack manage to get Benson off of the ship by releasing the containment cell holding him from the ship. Izel already has the coordinates for the temple where her realm opens, but now Benson can give the same information to the S.H.I.E.L.D. team.
Back on the ground, Daisy goes after Sarge with the blade that the Fitzsimmons-Shaw team developed to potentially kill Izel. As she prepares to kill him, he tells her to do it before he hurts them and continues to grow stronger. Part of Coulson’s personality start to peak through and Daisy cannot kill him.
Elsewhere, YoYo and Mack wake up chained up in the temple with Izel. She reveals that her family will come through and take on physical forms. The only issue is that because the monoliths don’t have a physical form, the ritual can’t be completed the way she wants. As YoYo tells Izel that she and Mack have faced all their fears, Izel uses the orb to create Flint, the gifted teenager that YoYo and Mack took into their care in the future back in season five.
Out in space, the Chronicoms turn on their leader, preparing to find a new homeworld by any means necessary.
Final take on last night’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Watching all of the YoYoMack scenes is such a balm. I was rooting for them to get back together. It seems that whenever a couple get together or back together on this show some kind of danger or tragedy must happen to them. I’m hoping the pair makes it out alive in the finale. Poor Benson! Watching him suffer through Izel’s cruel game was so hard to watch. As for other scenes that tug on your heart emotionally, I’ll just like to shout out Chloe and Clark for coming through! The scene between Daisy and Coulson definitely tugged on my heartstrings.
I can’t wait to see what happens with Flint and this temple. I’m giving “From the Ashes” an 8.5 out 10.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Fridays at 8 PM est on ABC.
