‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Recap and Review “Inescapable “
Last week, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. gave us our Fitz-Simmons reunion, but it wasn’t quite ideal as they were forced to try and solve the Chronicoms time travel problem. Here’s a recap and review of “Inescapable”.
The episode kicks off with Jemma and Fitz “waking” up in a white room and being told that their success is the key to escape. When they’re alone he proposes, not knowing they’re already married. In reality, they’re inside their minds, stuck until they find an answer. Inside the mind prison, they can recall all of their memories and knowledge as well as create any tool they need. While Jemma is hesitant to tell Fitz about what happens in the future, Enoch is worrying in the outside world about the Chronicom technology killing the duo.
Fitz and Jemma are transported to Jemma’s childhood room after she turns into her seven-year-old self. The situation frustrates Fitz as he has to work with her young temperament. When he threatens to reboot AIDA to get her help, Jemma reverts back to her adult self. Unable to fight her memories, Mack appears and opens a door to the morgue. Jemma tries to stop Fitz from going in, but he does anyway, seeing his own dead body.
Fitz learns that he and Jemma are married and that Coulson passes while he’s asleep. When he leaves the room, Jemma walks through a memory of YoYo expressing concern over Mack distancing himself, before running into a shared memory of the night she and Fitz first studied together in the academy. Things take a turn when Fitz’ Framework counterpart appears, still a big part of Fitz’ consciousness.
While the couple manages to escape Leopold and his Hydra soldiers, they get cornered by a version of Jemma that looks like something out of a horror movie. After they escape her, they end up in a memory of the day Coulson invited them to be on his team. Creepy Jemma returns but the duo gets separated, leaving Jemma cornered by Leopold.
The duo ends up getting tortured by their evil counterparts before remembering they control their minds. They bring Daisy and Mack into their mental world to kick some butt. When they escape those moments, they end up back in the chamber that Ward us to drop them into the ocean. They argue over their egos, their dark sides, and their motivations before realizing they just love each other. They decide to face their evil sides together but find they find the pair making out.
When they make it back to the white room all is calm until Altarah appears and tells them that they’ve wasted time. They tell her they’ll have nothing to do with messing around with time. She threatens them but collapses. They wake up in the outside world to discover that Enoch knocked the Chronicoms out. Before Enoch transports them, Jemma rushes to tell Fitz that he’s a grandfather. Back on earth, Daisy explains the situation and Mack is relieved that they even found him. Mack reveals that the ones that destroyed the Chronicom world are currently on earth.
Final take on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 606
Shoutout to Elizabeth and Iain for killing it in this episode. They made me laugh and have all the feels. Having an entire Fitz-Simmons episode is exactly what we needed as a reunion balm. This episode had great writing and flowed well. I’m giving “Inescapable” a 10 out of 10.
