‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Recap and Review: “Leap”
Just as the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. celebrated their victory over both Izel and Sarge, they have to deal with the fallout of May shooting Sarge. Here’s a recap of episode 10, “Leap”. The episode picked up with the agents rushing around to save Sarge. May confesses to Mack straight up. He puts her into a room with Daisy who admonishes her behavior.
As Mack goes to check out the security footage to see what happens, YoYo and Agent Piper are skeptical of the details of what really went down. YoYo is a bit more understanding of May’s behavior seeing as she’s done tough things for the greater good, just like YoYo has. Downstairs in the lab, Jemma reveals to Fitz that Sarge has a pulse that’s getting stronger by the minute. Elsewhere, YoYo, Agent Piper, and Daisy start investigating as they realize that the attack isn’t May’s style.
When YoYo goes in to talk to her, she has no memory of anything after the party besides seeing Davis in the hallway. Elsewhere in the halls, something attacks Piper. In the lab, Fitz and Deke spend time chatting before Piper walks in. After Fitz confirms that nothing was physically wrong with May, Piper walks to the other end of the lab and takes one of the shattered Shrike pieces. She uses the pieces to lead her somewhere in the base. It’s smooth sailing until Deke catches up with her and notices the Shrike piece.
Motives and Realizations
It’s revealed that Izel has been inside of Piper as she leaps in Deke’s body. She soon realizes he doesn’t have the clearance to get where she needs to go. When Davis realizes he has no memory besides going after Izel and Daisy finds one of the guards injured, they go to Mack with their discovery that Izel has been body-hoping. Mack puts the base on lockdown and summons the “inner circle” into the main area. There they all reveal secrets that nobody else except one other person would know. When Daisy, May, YoYo, and Mack are clear, Mack locks the powered duo away so Izel can’t possess them and use their powers.
When it revealed that she’s in Fitz’ body, she refuses to cooperate until she gets what she wants. She leaps body to body, shots Piper in the hand, and makes Davis jump off of the upper balcony, killing him. She jumps into Mack’s body before Davis hits the ground and uses his security clearance to get through the base. Downstairs, Sarge wakes up and demands to be free.
He breaks out and goes after Izel after hearing over a guard’s radio that Mack is loose and dangerous. Upstairs, Fitz realizes that what his other self thought to be a fear dimension is actually the monolith of creation. Previously when Coulson when in to shut it down, another Coulson was trapped elsewhere in space and time.
Ultimately, Fitz device now houses the energy of all three monoliths. It’s not long until Sarge finds Izel. She tries to get him to work with her. She explains to him that his memories are actually Coulson’s and that they are from the same realm. Soon, Sarge remembers his other name but is still hesitant to believe her. She wants to give physical form to the rest of their kind. He refuses her plea.
She walks away telling him that the only thing powerful enough to stop her is locked away inside of him. Izel takes over YoYo who just woke up Mack. He agrees to leave with her to watch over YoYo’s body. As they place Davis’ body in a body bag and Sarge back in his cell, Mack leaves with a nod to May, putting his trust in her and the team. Later, Fitz has a suspicion that the Ghost Rider spirit may come from the same realm as Izel and her non-corporal species.
Final take on last week’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Well, that was a twist. From body jumping, and truth reveals, to Mack and YoYo leaving this episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had a lot of intense moments. I loved the visual of Izel body hoping and trying to figure out who she was as everyone stared each other down. Still, I feel a little lost about the realm she and Sarge are supposedly from but hopefull they explain that more. I’m giving “Leap” a 7.5 out of 10.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Fridays at 8 PM EST.
