‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Recap and Review: “The Force of Gravity”
This week’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. kicked off part one of season five’s two-part finale. Here’s a recap!
While May and Coulson had to think of a way to escape Qovas’ ship, Fitzsimmons worked on multiple projects at once. Daisy had her first encounter with Taryan Kasius while unconscious and Talbot left Qovas’ ship and headed to the now suped-up Zephyr. Deke and Agent Davis hid after Talbot arrived with marauders at his side. After the general killed Agent Kim and left on the jet, Deke called down the Lighthouse and warned them.
On Taryan’s ship, Daisy overcame the man’s mental dampener using her abilities and got away from his guards. She was able to find May and Coulson, just as the pair broke out of their cells and found Deke. In the midst of fighting off marauders, Daisy caught the pair in a passionate kiss.
On Earth, Mack told Fitzsimmons to try and figure out a way to stop Talbot before going after the man. Mack along with YoYo and other agents followed him to his home where he tried to impress his son, George, with his powers. He grew angry after his wife tried to get George to go upstairs so they could talk. After Talbot destroyed the trucks that the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. arrived in, his son told him that he wasn’t a hero. He simply told George to continue to watch the news before flying off.
Back at the Lighthouse, Fitzsimmons concluded that combining a dose of odium with the centipede serum would be able to stop Talbot. On Qovas’ ship, May and Deke sent Coulson and Daisy ahead while they dealt with the Confederacy ship where Qovas threatened to blow up the Lighthouse. The pair reset the missile coordinates and May took on the alien himself while Deke set coordinates for Earth on the transportation device. Qovas was shocked when he launched the missiles and they turned around towards the ship.
May and Deke arrived at the Lighthouse just as the ship exploded. Aboard the quinjet, Coulson’s wound suddenly reopened and the man fainted. With Coulson in the med bay, Fitzsimmons explained their discovery about the odium and centipede serum. When Daisy revealed that what they had was the last of serum, they realized that they could either save Coulson or stop Talbot and save the world, proving YoYo right. Elsewhere, Talbot went after Robin and Polly to find out where the gravitonium was.
Review of last night’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Part one of the season finale was action-packed and built a great platform for what’s sure to be a nerve-wracking finale. All of the lingering tension between the team sets an interesting dynamic that I’m sure will linger in future episodes (fingers crossed for a season six). Quick note: Philinda rises and I loved that epic kiss!
Deke has grown on me a lot since it was revealed that he’s Fitzsimmons grandson. His scenes with Coulson and May last night were golden. I loved that “I know six numbers!” line. Bravo to Jeff Ward. I’m a little nervous about his character going into part two next week.
I’m giving this week’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. a 9 out of 10.
