‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Recap: “Fear and Loathing on the Planet of Kitson”
Last night on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the consequences of trying to change history and Fitz’ fate catch up to Jemma and co. while Fitz and Enoch find themselves on space’s version of Las Vegas. Here’s a recap and review of “Fear and Loathing on the Planet of Kitson”.
After saving Viso’s crew, Fitz and Enoch find themselves trapped on the planet of Kitson after two other crewmen take control of the ship and kick them off because of their wanted status across the galaxy. When Jemma and company arrive at Fitz’ original destination, a representative demands they participate in an inspection. Malachi, an armed Chronicom who’s after Fitz confronts them but they capture him. According to him, Fitz shouldn’t be alive since he died a year ago.
They track the location of Fitz and Enoch’s old ship and make their way to Kitson. Right before the trip, Davis grabs some food from the ship and shares it with Jemma and Daisy. It’s the same snack that Enoch warns Fitz not to eat because he’s human, earlier in the episode. As the girls make their way into the Kitson casino, they start tripping out and things get wacky.
High-Stakes Fun & Games
It isn’t long until Enoch loses a game because he can’t read one of his opponent’s bluff. As a solution, he gets Fitz in on a high-risk game that’s based on numbers and not bluffing. Fitz learns just how high-stakes this game is when one player lands on four and is killed immediately.
Things turn when Malachi gets free and knocks out Davis. He manually goes in and messes with Enoch’s system. The Chronicom goes on the fritz and releases a sound that only humans can hear. The game abruptly halts when Enoch falls to the floor and Fitz starts holding his head in pain.
Elsewhere in the casino, Daisy and Jemma hear Enoch’s noise and crawl out from under the table. At the same time, several hunter Chronicoms rush the entrance and kill the door guard. Figuring they’re after Fitz, the duo takes them out together since Daisy’s not exactly sober and can’t aim straight. Just as Fitz and Enoch escape the room where the high-risk game is being held, Jemma sees him. Their reunion is cut short when Malachi appearances in the room, grabs Fitz, and disappears again.
Jemma can do nothing but look on in shock. Elsewhere in the universe, Sarge fires his weapon into earth’s night sky, creating some sort of output that lets his team locate unknown objects across the globe. If next week’s preview is anything to go off of they’re hunting time travelers since we see him going after Deke.
Final take on this week’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
This episode was not what I was expecting once those puffs took effect. Everything started off as expected with the tension between Jemma, Daisy, Piper, and Davis, and even Fitz and Enoch landing in trouble so soon after getting out of another situation.
I loved the turn but my heart aches because we got so close to a FitzSimmons reunion only for it to be snatched away because Davis was high on space puffs. Why do the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. writers love angst? Daisy and Jemma working together to use her powers? Hilarious.
Shoutout to Chloe Bennett and Elizabeth Henstridge for making me laugh and really going for it in their scenes. This episode was strong and found a way to stay grounded despite its galactic setting and trippy sequences. I’m giving “Fear and Loathing on the Planet of Kitson” a 9 out of 10. I missed our earth folks.
