AHS Season Seven Has a Name – ‘American Horror Story: Cult’
The title for season seven of American Horror Story has been revealed: Cult. Ryan Murphy’s hit series is set to return September 5th on FX. In typical Murphy fashion American Horror Story: Cult will feature several of the same actors from the previous seasons playing different characters in a new story. Some stars returning this season include Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Cheyenne Jackson, and John Carroll Lynch. New to the series this season are comedian Billy Eichner (Billy On The Street, Parks & Rec) and Colton Haynes (Teen Wolf, Arrow). So far, character wise, we know that Peters and Paulson will be playing Kai and Ally and their story will “be a love story for the ages.”
The American Horror Story: Cult plot is being kept under wraps for now, but Murphy has said that is that it will be set in Michigan and that the Trump-Clinton election will be used as a jumping point for a season that plans to highlight “People who don’t have a voice in our culture.” He also added, “People who are ignored by the current administration and who are afraid and feel terrorized that their lives are going to be taken away.”
It’s always fun once the teasers start being released each week to see the fan theories out there of what people think they mean and what the season will be about. One theory I’ve seen going around on Twitter is that the clowns in the teasers represent Trump. Murphy has been very open about not being a fan of him so it wouldn’t surprise me, especially with the election being used as a starting point for the season. Another one I’m seeing is that Lynch would be returning in some form reprising his season four character, Twisty the clown, who terrorized and murdered people. That season took place in the 50’s and the upcoming season will take place in present day, so it will be interesting to see in what form we see him.
One clue Murphy gave was a picture he posted on his Instagram account of what appears to be a woman’s hands holding a comic book titled “Twisty The Clown Chronicles”. With the theme being Cult, it makes sense that in the present day there would be cults dedicated to Twisty. Kind of how Manson has his followers. Murphy has said that creepy clowns will play a big part, so I’m going more with that theory.
If you go to the website AHSCult.com you can see clues each week for the eight weeks leading up to the premiere. You can also get your own cult identification number.

Hopefully, you don’t have a fear of clowns! Be sure to join the American Horror Story: Cult September 5th on FX!
