al pacino

Al Pacino will be playing former Penn State coach Joe Paterno in an upcoming movie for HBO. The still untitled movie is being directed and executive produced by Barry Levinson (Rock the Kashbah) with Tom Fontana, Jason Sosnoff, Edward Pressman, Rick Nicita, and Lindsay Sloane also serving as executive producers. Writing the film is Debora Cahn, John C. Richards, and David McKenna.

The official tag line reads: “After becoming the winningest coach in college football history, Joe Paterno is embroiled in Penn State’s Jerry Sandusky’s sexual abuse scandal, challenging his legacy and forcing him to face questions of institutional failure on behalf of the victims.”

In 2011 Paterno’s career abruptly came to an end after assistant coach Jerry Sandusky’s crimes became known and that Paterno and other officials knew about the crimes but chose to look the other way.
