An Injury strikes Detroit twice in 9-4 win over Rays
The Detroit Tigers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 9-4 today, but it came with a price. Top pitcher for Detroit Jordan Zimmerman did well again today, pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five hits and two runs, getting three strike outs. He left the game, suffering a right groin strain injury, no announcement of his return has been made.
Zimmerman wasn’t the only player to suffer an injury. Miguel Cabrera was another player who got an injury. Cabrera was hit by a pitch and suffered a left knee contusion and is listed “day-to-day.” Cabrera was on his game too, going three for three, getting a home-run on one of those hits.
The Tigers were able to holdout and win the game without both players. After Zimmerman suffered his injury, Kyle Ryan came in and finished the inning allowing nothing else. Drew VerHagen pitched one inning, but allowed two runs on three hits. Mark Lowe came in for an inning, and allowed two hits. Alex Wilson also pitched an inning and didn’t allow a thing.
The offense for Detroit was spread out with help, the only player to go above .500 for the entire game was Cabrera. Everyone else had either one or two hits out of the three to five at bats. Victor Martinez was the best player besides Miggy today, going two for five and got a home-run out of one of the at bats.
Overall, the injury to Zimmerman and Cabrera didn’t seem to affect the team much. Detroit should rest Cabrera though and let that knee heal, they play the Phillies tomorrow, so the challenge shouldn’t be that hard without him. He shouldn’t be gone for long. Zimmerman is the one injury that Detroit should worry about more. Zimmerman had Tommy John surgery back in 2009, and has been healthy recently but this could be a good thing for Detroit. It is better that this is an injury to his groin rather than his elbow, but we can only hope it isn’t serious and he doesn’t miss much time from it. Detroit needs all the help they can get when it comes to pitching, and losing their number one pitcher will be a big blow for Detroit if he misses much time.https://www.myfantasysportstalk.com/an-injury-strikes-detroit-twice-in-9-4-win-over-rays/https://i0.wp.com/www.myfantasysportstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/533527624.jpg?fit=779%2C1024&ssl=1https://i0.wp.com/www.myfantasysportstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/533527624.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1MLBRecent PostsDetroit Tigers,InjuryThe Detroit Tigers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 9-4 today, but it came with a price.
