holdout
(Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports)

Ahh the NFL is officially underway in a few hours. Teams have been game planning for their Week 1 opponents, and Le’Veon Bell has yet to show up to the team facility. To make matters worse, fans and the media have hardly heard anything from Bell himself, and lately his agent Adisa Bakari has been doing all the talking. Bakari went onto NFL XM Radio on Sunday and mentioned that Bell’s holdout was nothing that the Pittsburgh Steelers should take lightly, and that the holdout could go well into the season.

The 26-year-old stud has the option to sign his franchise tender worth $14.5 million, but the fear of being ran into the ground, in what seems to be possibly his last season with Pittsburgh, is one of the many factors that’s responsible for Bell’s absence. In the past two seasons Le’Veon has 836 carries, so his health is always a concern.

Bell could show up at any moment now–but if Saturday comes and the star running back still hasn’t made an appearance, then he will start to lose $855,000 in game checks each week he continues to sit out. Ben Roethlisberger mentioned that he won’t let Bell’s holdout distract him or the team, but some of the offensive lineman are already promoting James Conner as the new featured back, and taking shots at Le’Veon on social media. Hopefully we have an update as Week 1 closes in.
