Strengths:

  • Fast
  • Ultra competitive
  • Not just a short yardage receiver
  • Routes feature sharp, leveraged angles at a relentless pace
  • Creates after catch with elusiveness
  • Can work on special teams
  • Can go deep and challenge corners with speed

Weaknesses:

  • Can he beat press coverage?
  • Body catcher, all the time
  • Can be shoved off the route path by solid contact
  • Not much experience against corners with NFL speed and strength
  • Size presents limitations
  • Catch radius
  • Hands must improve

Analysis: Andy Isabella is climbing draft boards and rightfully so. He may be small in stature, but he makes up for it in heart and speed. He’s more than just your short-yardage receiver like a Cole Beasley–Isabella can run past the fastest of defensive backs and challenge safeties deep. He only received one D-1 offer (from UMass) and did not play much as a freshman–but from then on, he was in the starting lineup capped off as a senior with a Biletnikoff Award finalist nomination and second-team AP All-American honors. He led the FBS with 141.5 receiving yards per game (1,698, 16.7 per catch) and ranked near the top with 102 receptions and 13 touchdowns in 12 starts.

Isabella has ‘great’ qualities, but he can’t help his size–at 5’9 less than 200-pounds his ceiling is limited. He can be dangerous as a deep threat from the slot, but he will need to drastically improve his hands and catching technique if he’s going to carve out a role in the NFL. On tape, Isabella is a chronic ‘body-catcher’ rarely using his hands to snag in balls–maybe that’s due to his small hands (8 3/8″), but it’s not a good sign to scouts. If he can’t be relied on to catch passes, he will be a one-trick pony at the next level–vertical go-routes, that’s it.

Size: 5’9 188lbs

Draft Rank: Top 10 WR

NFL Comparison: John Brown

Draft Projection: 3rd-4th Round
