Angels pitcher Jake Jewell carted off after nasty injury
In just his third major league appearance, Angels reliever Jake Jewell, who was just recalled from Triple-A before the game suffered a terrible ankle injury.
He had to be taken off the field on a stretcher after a play at home plate in the bottom of the eighth inning in last night’s game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
With a runner on third, Jewell threw a wild pitch and ran home to cover. He slipped, however, and his right ankle got caught beneath him. He was on the ground in obvious pain and then was taken out on a stretcher and directly to Massachusetts General hospital. There has been no update yet, but you have to suspect it some type of break or compound fracture injury.
Terrible luck for a promising pitcher who just felt a great amount of joy before the game (being recalled back to the majors). Prayers on a speedy recovery.
