(USA TODAY Sports)

Strengths:

  • Great size
  • Very productive
  • Former all-state basketball player who can post-up
  • Natural hands pluck it with good strength
  • Always ready to run after catch
  • Finds ball early and can track it over his shoulder
  • Elite run blocker
  • Drew pass interference penalties in bunches
  • Great ball skills

Weaknesses:

  • Slower release off ball
  • Want to see him beat press coverage against elite DB’s
  • Competition was sub-par in the MAC
  • Lacks breakaway speed
  • Dominant deep threat, but will it translate?

Analysis: I have had the opportunity to watch Anthony Johnson up-close the last two seasons at UB and he is a legitimate receiver prospect who will be drafted later than his skill-set presents. He has a big frame, long arms, and elite ball tracking skills. He was a deep threat in college, but his lack of big play speed may prevent that from happening consistently at the next level. He can track the ball down field and win 1-on-1 with most defensive backs. He will find himself in the good graces of whichever coaching staff selects him because he is a committed run blocker who does so very well. Despite the questions about his breakaway speed, Johnson should translate to a second wide receiver in the NFL with one-to-two years of bench time to fully grasp NFL offenses. I am confident in saying Johnson will be a starter you can grab later in the draft.

Size: 6’2 209lbs

Draft Rank: No.4 WR

NFL Comparison: Tyler Boyd

Draft Projection: Round 3-4
