The Arizona Diamondbacks have shut down 22 year-old top pitching prospect Archie Bradley due to shoulder tendonitis and have recalled left-hander Robbie Ray from Triple-A to take his spot in the rotation.

Bradley has not been right since his face was crushed with a line-drive at the end of April. In his last 16 innings, Bradley has allowed 19 runs and has watched his ERA balloon to 5.80.

It’s a smart move for the Diamondbacks, who recently bolstered their pitching staff in a trade, not to risk any further damage to Bradley’s arm. Bradley can be the ace of this staff for years to come. Before the line-drive to his face, Bradley had an ERA under 2.00 so his stuff is legitimate.

Robbie Ray was brought over in the offseason via a trade with the Detroit Tigers. Ray struggled in limited duty last season in Detroit, accumulating a 1-4 record with a 8.14 ERA in just under 30 innings of work, but has the stuff to compete in the big leagues.
