Ares confirmed for ‘Wonder Woman’
In what seems to be a month of back and forth news concerning the DCEU, especially the upcoming Batman film, comes some very exciting news. Since the cast list was announced for Wonder Woman, many have speculated who the main villain would be. Most of us assumed that Ares might play a large part in the film. The film is set during World War I and Ares is the God of War, it’s only right for one to assume he would be the villain. Chris Pine who plays Gal Gadot’s (Wonder Woman) love interest, Steve Trevor, told French Magazine Studio Cine Live that Ares is in fact in the film.
” I play a pilot who works for the Allies and spies on the Germans without their knowledge. My character steals a notebook filled with scientific formulas in an Ottoman base, he steals a plane but is shot down in the open sea. Behind these scientific formulas, there is a deadly gas that could well annihilate humanity. Now, it turns out that this is precisely the goal of Ares, the god of war. He is jealous of humanity, which is a creation of his father, the deceased Zeus (he was killed by Ares when he rebelled against him, with the help of the Amazons)”
At this time nothing has been confirmed from Director Patty Jenkins or Warner Bros. but one would expect Chris Pine to know what he is talking about. It has long been speculated that Danny Huston would be the villain Ares but until we get confirmation from WB or Patty, then speculation is where this will stay. I for one am glad to get some sort of confirmation that Ares would be in the film and Danny Huston would be a perfect actor to fill that role.
Last year saw the DC film franchise divide fans and critics with Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. Fans of the franchise hope 2017 will be much kinder. Wonder Woman will kick things off this summer which will then lead us into November’s release of Justice League.
