Atlanta Falcons Mock Draft
(USA TODAY Sports)

The NFL Draft is April 28, 2016. We are all looking forward to it. Last season, we all know the Falcons started blazing hot, and ended the season with a losing record. They struggled on offense and played decent on defense. Even with that, the Falcons main goal this draft should be defense. The Falcons still have a lot of work to do on the defensive side of the ball. Here is the Atlanta Falcons Mock Draft leading up to the real deal….

Round 1: OLB, Darron Lee 6’0 232lbs Ohio State

(USA TODAY Sports)
  • Lee ran a 4.47 at the NFL Combine.
  • In 2015, Lee had 66 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. Named second team All-Big Ten Honors
  • The Falcons need a big name at the OLB position, and I believe Lee can come in and get the job done with his speed and versatility.

Round 2: SS Jeremy Cash 6-0 212 lbs Duke

(USA TODAY Sports)
(USA TODAY Sports)
  • Cash had 101 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 3 forced fumbles and 2.5 sacks as a senior.
  • Falcons need help at the safety position. His ability to make big tackles stands out on tape.

Round 3: OG Connor McGovern 6’4 306lbs Missouri

(USA TODAY Sports)
(USA TODAY Sports)
  • McGovern played right guard, right tackle, and left tackle at Missouri
  • He is listed as the strongest draft prospect, benching over 500 lbs and 225 lbs 40 times. He also has good feet.
  • The line was not consistent in protecting Matt Ryan, and McGovern is a very solid prospect, especially in the 3rd round.

Round 4: DE Jihad Ward 6’5 297lbs Illinois

(USA TODAY Sports)
  • Ward had 54 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks in the 2015 season.
  • All Big Ten Honors
  • Ward is big and physical and that is what the Falcons need on the defensive line.

Round 7: TE Temarrick Hemingway 6’5 244lbs South Carolina St.

  • 38 receptions, 418 yards, First Team All MEAC
  • The Falcons have not been able to replace Tony Gonzalez since his retirement
