‘Atlanta’ Recap and Review: “North of the Border”
This week on Atlanta, things continued to go downhill for Earn and the crew as they hit the road to play a college show. Here’s a recap of “North of the Border”.
After his encounter in “Woods”, Al almost packed his 38” but accidentally left it on the counter after Tracy scared him in the kitchen. The squatter finessed himself along for the trip as Al’s security. Instead of staying in a hotel, Earn planned for them to stay with Violet, a fan he found on Instagram, to save money aka he was cheap. When they arrived, she was quick to flirt with Al and get him into her room. She ruined the moment by describing a weird dream where she was a crocodile and he was a crane. In the dream, she ate him. Cue the warning alarms
After the Pajama Jam concert where Clark County also performed, there was an afterparty. Violet got pissed when Al talked to other girls and poured a drink on him. Tracy shoved her, but Earn kind of saved the day by catching her only to get slapped. She ran to tell her brother who came after them with his friends. Earn tried to calm everyone down until Tracy rolled up and snuck the dude. The quartet ran through the campus away from the group.
They ended up in a fraternity house where hazed pledges were naked in the living room with bags over their head. They soon found themselves smoking weed with a Confederate flag in the background. While Darius and Tracy went off to see the frat’s gun room Al and Earn shared a laugh over the craziness of their situation. As the laughter died down Al opened up to Earn about getting a new manager, especially after all the stuff they went through on the trip. Earn tried to blame Tracy, but Al wasn’t having it.
The next morning, their stuff was cut up and thrown outside of Violet’s apartment, the car was messed up, and Earn’s laptop was gone. On the ride back, the tension between Tracy and Earn was so real to the point that he asked Al to pull over so he could fight Tracy. When they do get out, Earn couldn’t hold his own and ended up scrambling in the road. Back in the car, Earn’s eye had already started to swell.
Review of Thursday’s Atlanta
Earn cannot stop taking losses. I knew he was cheap but not stay-with-a-stranger-you-met-on-Instagram cheap. His decisions make me wonder how he even got into Princeton in the first place. It was hard to watch Al fire him knowing Earn’s already lost Van and really doesn’t have anything else on the table to get by, but I think most viewers saw it coming after all of the shade thrown at Earn last week by Sierra.
Atlanta does an amazing job throwing the unexpected at us. I wasn’t prepared to see a bunch of pale butts, but that’s what we got. I couldn’t stop laughing when Al and Earn had to sit through that D4L dance moment. On another note, as funny as Tracy is, he’s so extra to the point that I want to fight him too, but after seeing Earn get rocked I know better. The question of the week: What was on Earn’s laptop? Al’s album right?
I’m giving “North of the Border” a 9 out of 10.
Atlanta airs Thursdays at 10 PM EST on FX.
