Jason Pierre-Paul has stayed away from the New York Giants completely since he was severely injured in a 4th of July fireworks accident. Now in August, the Giants have yet to see JPP’s wounds, but they were able to speak with him on the phone. Giants owner John Mara confirmed with 660 AM in New York that general manager Jerry Reese did talk with his injured defensive end over the phone this weekend.

Pierre-Paul has limited options after being designated with the Franchise Tag. He can sign his tender, or not sign and not suit-up at all in 2015. More than likely, he will eventually sign the tender, but that gives the Giants the ability to inspect his injuries and place him on the non-football injury list if he is not healthy enough to play. Placing him on that list allows the Giants to not pay their defensive end a dime.

I would expect a resolution to happen before the start of the regular season, but if you have seen the photos released of JPP in his bandages, he could very well be placed on the non-football injury list. Only time and communication with the Giants brass will tell.
