Batman V Superman- The future of DC movies
The excitement for Batman V Superman is only getting stronger and with it just over a month away it’s time we discuss what it means for the future of the DC cinematic universe.
Comparing DC’s approach to how Marvel started their movie series DC is definitely very different. With no origin stories (not counting Superman’s in Man of Steel) DC is jumping straight in the deep end putting two of their main heroes against each other and then bring the original trio together ( Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman ). This is something Marvel has essentially taken eight years to do.
There is no doubt that Snyder will deliver with this movie, but will it be too crowded? With hints of cameos from Aquaman, the Flash and Cyborg. Although they will all be subtle and we will probably not be seeing any of them ‘suiting up’, but rather seeing them as normal people. Hopefully the appearances will be tasteful and not too full on.
In the most recent trailer for the movie we see a focus on Batman’s fighting skills in all its glory.
After Batman V Superman
Batman V Superman is definitely the kick starter of the DC cinematic universe, the closest movie after it is Suicide Squad, coming out August 5th, it will expand the DCEU and create many more opportunities and give further depth to characters.
We will get origin stories for a few characters, Wonder woman has already started production and is due to release June 2017, and we will also get a Justice League movie that same year in November!
In the next four years DC has nine movies planned, five of which are singular movies to develop characters such as Cyborg (2020), The Flash (2018), Aquaman (2018) and Shazam! (2019). We will also be seeing a second Justice League in 2019, hopefully we get to see Martian Hunter in that one.
With all this coming up DC has a lot to offer us, but a lot to live up to also. If Batman V Superman happens to fail (It probably won’t) then the franchise would very much be in danger of all round failure.
