Battle of the 8-3’s: UConn takes on Texas
On Tuesday Night, in Austin Texas, Kevin Ollie and his UConn Huskies (8-3) will face off against new head coach Shaka Smart and his Texas Longhorns (8-3). The Huskies head into this matchup winning their last 3 contests, while the Longhorns are on a 6-game winning streak of their own. During the Longhorns current win streak, includes a big win over Top-Ranked North Carolina as they were able to upset Roy Williams squad at the buzzard. The Huskies look to revenge the Longhorns, a year after being defeated by a game winning 3 at the buzzard. Both the Huskies and Longhorns will be playing short-handed, as both teams are without their big man for an extended period due to injuries. The Huskies Amida Brimah, will be out for 6-8 weeks with a broken finger after averaging 7.2 PPG, 5.2 RPG while swatting 3 shots per game for the Huskies. For the Longhorns, the will be without bug man Cameron Ridley who was averaging 12.7 PPG and 10.0 RPG, after fracturing his left foot in practice.
The Huskies will again look for strong performances from their guards as this will be just their third game without the 7-footer Brimah. In the Huskies last game, it was transfer F Shonn Miller who notched a game high 25 points, and sophomore G Daniel Hamilton who put on a show recording his first triple-double (11 points, 11 assist, 11 rebounds). Also, Rodney Purvis poured in 16 of his that game, as it was a quiet yet another efficient game for the Junior. Look to see more of the strong guard play, as without Brimah the team will heavily depend on their top scorer Purvis (15.2) and stat sheet stuffer Hamilton who is leading the team in rebounds (8.7) and assist (5.9). As for the Longhorns, they will hope for another strong game from their top scorer Isaiah Taylor (14.7), as he had a game high 26 points while dishing 6 assist in their last matchup against Stanford.
Both teams look to continue their high level of play as the Huskies are just out of the Top 25, and the Longhorns are not far behind due to their win streak and big wins over UNC and Stanford. The Huskies and Longhorns would love to add this win as it will strengthen their resumes come Tournament time. The Huskies missed the tourney last year and were bounced early after receiving a NIT bid. The Huskies are just 2 years removed from defeating Kentucky and being named National Champions, and will look to continue that journey back to the top with their latest matchup with the Longhorns.https://www.myfantasysportstalk.com/battle-8-3s-uconn-takes-texas/https://i0.wp.com/www.myfantasysportstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/a-47.jpg?fit=1024%2C683&ssl=1https://i0.wp.com/www.myfantasysportstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/a-47.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1American AthleticNCAABNews and UpdatesRecent Posts#Kevin Ollie,#NCAAB,Kentucky,Roy Williams,Shaka Smart,Stamford,Texas Longhorns,UConn Huskies,UNCOn Tuesday Night, in Austin Texas, Kevin Ollie and his UConn Huskies (8-3) will face off against new head coach Shaka Smart and his Texas Longhorns (8-3).
