Battle for New York
Tonight marks the first time this season that the Knicks and Nets will face off.
In a city that is known for it’s love of sports, this is a big game. The Nets will make the 5.8 mile, 36 minute (with traffic) journey to Madison Square Gardens.
The house will be packed with celebrities. Spike Lee will be courtside like always, but Jay-Z will probably be there as well. This depends on what he has planned for his birthday which is today. If he is there, then you will probably see Beyonce, and maybe even Justin Timberlake or Kanye!
Let’s get back to What We Talkin’ Bout, basketball. The Nets will look to get Jay-Z a win for his birthday. What better way than to conquer your cross-town rival?
Both teams will enter with an Empire State of Mind, looking to Run This Town.
The Nets are 5-13 so far this year. They have 99 Problems, but rebounding isn’t one. They rank 10th in the league in rebounding and 10th in rebounding differential. It’s hustle stats like that they will need tonight, and You Can’t Knock the Hustle.
The main problem Brooklyn is having this season is scoring points. They rank 28th in the league in scoring. They also are ranked 19th in points allowed. This Can’t Be Life if the Nets want to turn their season around or even beat their rivals.
The bright side this season for the Nets has been Brook Lopez. He is having one of the best seasons of his career so far. He is averaging over 20 points per game and just over eight rebounds. He is also putting up over two blocks per game.
Jarrett Jack has also been enjoying a career season. He has Nickel and Dimed his way so far to 14 points and 7 assists per game.
The Nets will need their veteran lineup to step up tonight if they want to claim New York.
On the other side you have the Knicks. After a terrible season, the went out and got Kristaps Porzingis. The 7’3” Latvian has been American Dreamin’ this season and his current numbers have shown that A Star Is Born. He has had a resurgence in his shooting percentage which has really helped him. Porzingis is putting together a campaign that has him at the top of the rookie of the year debate. He is averaging almost 14 points per game and just over nine rebounds. He is also leading all rookies in double-doubles at nine.
The matchup between Porzingis and Lopez will be an interesting one to watch. Lopez will be forced to play stretch defense on the perimeter, which may cause problems for the Nets who already struggle defensively.
The Knicks will hope that Carmelo Anthony can get back to his normal form. His stats are all down so far this year. He has been shooting just a hair over 40 percent from the field and is only averaging around 21 points per game. The positive out of this is that they are around .500 without playing their best basketball.
Now for the Moment of Clarity. The prediction of which team will take the Crown of New York. Which team will drink from the Holy Grail.
The Knicks will get the win in front of their home crowd and crash Jay-Z’s birthday party.
New York 103- Brooklyn 96
