Battleborn is a Flop
Battleborn is 40% off, just two weeks after its release. It’s sales numbers have been abysmal, it’s player count is even worse and it’s competition is soaring with success. Nothing could be worse for this massively budgeted game by Gearbox, creators of the largely successful Borderlands series. Why is Battleborn failing?
- Horrible Marketing
No one knew what type of game Battleborn was trying to be. It was marketed as a First Person Shooter MOBA , that’s not really a MOBA. It also has single player component with a co-op component and more poorly made game types than you can shake a stick at. Look at this tweet from the game’s director and try to figure out that he’s saying.
When asked what Battleborn was Randy Pitchford, the games creative director, responded with this tweet.
Battleborn is: FPS; hobby-grade coop campaign; genre-blended, multi-mode competitive e-sports; meta-growth, choice + epic Battleborn Heroes!

- Bad Writing
This may be a purely personal opinion but it did contribute to the game’s failure. While some people expected Borderlands’ humor to seep into the game, no one wanted to see it forced in. The writing/humor comes off at way TOO over the top and TOO force. It’s like a cringe worthy SNL skit. The “humor” also came as a bit of a surprise based on the commercials for the game.
- Busy Screens!
The amount of UI clutter and noise on screen can be dizzying. The combination of bright flashing colors with over saturation can really be trying on the eyes. On top of that the user interface looks amateur, to the point that some people think the game is free to play.
Battleborn died before it even released. It was immediately connected and compared with Overwatch. They have nothing in common but Gearbox took no actions to rectify the mistake. Blizzard loved the comparisons, in fact they released the Overwatch beta on the same day that Battleborn released, instantly killing its momentum. Battleborn became the more complicated, identity confused little brother to Overwatch who took over the hero shooter genre, and probably the online multi-player space for months to come.
This is looking like a huge loss for 2K and hopefully doesn’t stop them from publishing new IPs in the future.https://www.myfantasysportstalk.com/battleborn-is-a-flop/https://i2.wp.com/www.myfantasysportstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/battleborn2-1462387763126_large.jpg?fit=626%2C352&ssl=1https://i2.wp.com/www.myfantasysportstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/battleborn2-1462387763126_large.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1EntertainmentGamingNews and UpdatesRecent Posts#BattleBorn,2K Games, battleborn sucks,Gearbox,on saleBattleborn is 40% off, just two weeks after its release.
