Analysis: Benny Snell was getting a lot of hype during the college football season, but things have gone quiet in the lead-up to the draft. Despite dominating SEC competition, Snell has some weaknesses in his game that are difficult to overcome. He lacks the breakaway speed we see in successful NFL RB’s and his burst is well below average. He doesn’t find the crevices in the line very well and once he stops, it’s hard for him to get going again. All that said, Snell is a workhorse who can have success at the next level–just don’t expect him to have large runs for scores. He is a patient runner who is difficult to bring down and can carry defenders for an additional one-to-three yards after contact. He is also underrated as a receiver and can be a solid compliment in many backfields. Not many backs will outwork him.
