Presbyterian vs Radford Preview
(Radford Athletics)

The Radford men’s basketball team has the opportunity to defend its Big South title and it all starts on Thursday inside Gore Arena against the 7th-seeded Presbyterian Blue Hose.

The 12 p.m. ET tip will be early for both squads, but looking at the history of this series, the advantage is heavily on the side of the Highlanders

Radford is 15-7 over PC and has won the last six meetings, but for a silver lining–the previous two have been decided by a combined eight points. Last year, the Blue Hose dropped an overtime decision to the Highlanders, 74-68, and earlier this season fell by just two, 79-77.

Thanks to a 12-4 record in conference play, Radford earned a share of the 2018-19 Big South regular season championship alongside Campbell. It’s the fifth regular season title in program history and the first in a full 10 years. The Highlanders also took home the top spot in 1991-92, 1999-00, 2000-01 and 2008-09.

Two players lead the way for the Highlanders and they were both honored by the conference this week. Senior forward Ed Polite Jr. was named Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference, while redshirt sophomore guard Carlik Jones was named First Team All-Conference.

Their numbers explain why they took home those honors:

Ed Polite Jr.- 13.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.2 blocks

Carlik Jones- 15.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.7 steals

After being picked to finish ninth in the conference, they ended tied for fifth and earned the seventh-seed based on tie-breakers.

Senior guard Davon Bell was named Second Team All-Conference and senior forward Francois Lewis earned Honorable Mention honors, but the Blue Hose are led by the Big South’s Freshman of the Year, Adam Flagler.

Adam Flagler- 15.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists

Francois Lewis- 15.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists

Prediction

LINE: -4 Radford

O/U: 145

Dan’s Bet: -4 Radford

Presbyterian is an improved program trending upwards, but they are running into a Radford team that is experienced and hungry to make it back to the NCAA Tournament for a second consecutive season. Give my the Highlanders while I lay the points.

Score Prediction: Radford 73 Presbyterian 66
