SPOILER ALERT!!! Black Panther #1 Review

“For out of rage shall come another Wakana. And a better and brighter world.”

After years of being on team books bouncing back and forth between them, Black Panther finally has a solo series. Ta’Challa is being dubbed “The Orphan King” by his people and is struggling to rule over his nation of Wakana after the death of his sister and former queen Shuri. The people believe that Ta’Challa is unfit to rule after leaving the throne in order to be apart of all of the super teams such as “The Avengers” and “The Ultimates”

What sets this comic apart from every other superhero comic is that it’s not a superhero book, it’s a book about the politics of a country in the middle of a revolution. It also focuses on other members of Black Panthers family, such as his mother and how she has to make the hard choices for the good of her country. What I also admire is the very plot of this book with Ta’Challa having to prove himself to his people. You’d think after the events of AvX and Infinity that this would be a more light-hearted story after so much despair. But no, it actually deals with the consequences of these events. It was completely unexpected and I’m glad that this is the direction that they are going and I want to see how these events are resolved.
