Blindspot Recap and Review: “Warning Shot”
On Friday night, Blindspot returned to NBC with the return of Nas, who had previously sacrificed herself career-wise for the sake of the team and they take advantage of dark web expert, Rich Dotcom, in order to obtain a dangerous piece of technology created by and stolen from the NSA.
The episode starts with the audience finding out that Megan, Reade’s girlfriend, is undocumented, which is interesting because she’s dating the current assistant director of the FBI. But we learn later that Reade has been trying to change her illegal status so that he can surprise her with the papers and (SPOILER) propose to her, which he does at the end of the episode (and of course, she says yes).
Nas, played by the incredible Archie Panjabi, returns to the show by knocking on Kurt and Jane’s apartment to talk about yet another case related to one of Jane’s tattoo in relation to the NSA. We find out that a possibly fatal piece of NSA technology was recently stolen and that she’s apparently been freelancing for the CIA in their investigation into Shepard, AKA Jane’s manipulative adopted mother who was also last season’s big bad.
But we also find out that Zapata not only knew that Nas had been working with the CIA but that they’re also working together on some type of secret project which we learn is called Project Dragonfly. What that is, we still don’t know, but considering that they Nas telling her that she’ll be unpopular with the rest of the team once they find out about it.
For the case of the week, the team finds out that this destructive NSA technology was stolen via an inside job and is being sold on the dark web. We then find out that a teenager purchased the product after being paid by Iranians. The team then goes undercover to a dark web party (that Reade originally didn’t want Rich to go to) for Rich to pose as the buyer where they run into a little trouble with Shohid Aktar, a past associate of Rich and the FBI team, where he’s trying to steal the device. After a series of events, Jane ends up getting the device back from Aktar and the seller of the device ends up in FBI custody but Nas steals the device in order to get her job at the NSA back.
In other news, Roman is still pretending to be Thomas Jakeman and dating his target’s daughter, Blake Crawford and helps her to try to make a land deal with some rich Belgians called the Bruyeres. Blake ends up playing poker with the Bruyeres’ son, Junior, and letting him win at poker, all of that effort ending up to be pointless because Junior and company (including Blake but excluding Roman) get kidnapped at the end of the episode.
Overall, I still want to know exactly what the Dragonfly Project is and who else is involved other than Nas, Zapata, and CIA director Keaton. I’m also still wondering what Roman’s end game is; he seems to have somewhat good intentions because he’s going after Crawford but at the same time still resents Jane for erasing his memory, so we’ll just have to figure that out later on in the season.
