Strengths:

  • Freak athlete
  • Good power
  • Explosive
  • High ceiling/potential
  • High character
  • Edge-setter

Analysis: Bud Dupree is a freak athlete who will pass the eye test when you see him on the football field.  Still a raw prospect, Dupree has all the physical tools to excel in the NFL.  He can rush the passer from the edge, but transition to play against the run with ease.  Dupree posted great numbers at the NFL combine, raising his draft stock even more.  I have a second round grade on him, but if a team believes in his physical tools and thinks their coaching staff could mold him into a great player, I would not be surprised to see Dupree drafted late first round.

Need to improve:

  • Raw prospect
  • Has to learn technique
  • Scouts question instincts on the field

Analysis: Dupree’s physical traits jump off the page, but on the field he has a lot to learn.  His technique leaves a lot to be desired, as he relied on his physical gifts to succeed at Kentucky.  Some scouts have raised questions about Dupree’s fit in the NFL, as a 4-3 rush end with his hand in the ground (he did this at UK) or a stand-up 3-4 outside linebacker.  With either position, he will need to show better block shedding ability; he can’t outrun everyone at the next level.

Round prediction: 2
