Buddy Hield gets the best of Ben Simmons in 77-75 win
No. 1 Ranked Oklahoma took on LSU on Saturday Evening, where the key matchup was between two top NBA prospects; Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield and LSU’s Ben Simmons. These two are considered first round talents, Hield going anywhere in the mid-to-late first round, and potentially in the lottery. While Simmons is the undoubtedly first overall pick, who some are even comparing to LeBron James. So you have to bet that there were several NBA scouts in attendance. And boy, Hield and Simmons did not disappoint as scouts got quite the show from the young fellas.
Simmons had a good game in a strong effort that came up just short, scoring 14 points, hitting 6 of his 7 shots, to go along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Simmons did struggle a bit, committing 5 turnovers but that is expected from the 19-year old point forward, as he possesses plus ball handling skills, but makes some mental mistakes and some bad passes that are sure to be cleaned up as he matures. Simmons also threw down a crowd pumping reverse baseline jam, after the sweet cross over:
Hield had a stellar game In this matchup, scoring 32 points, where he hit 11 of his 22 shots to go along with 7 rebounds. Hield took total control in the second half, knocking down 7 of his 8 shots from beyond the arc. Hield was very impressive, continuing his strong play, as he’s averaging nearly 26 points and 6 rebounds for the Sooners as they collected their 18th win. But in the end, it was Hield’s teammate, Isaiah Cousins who hit the game winning shot with 4 seconds to go. With the clutch basket, Oklahoma was able to escape LSU’s upset bid after coming back from 14 down, and capturing the 77-75 victory.
