Buffalo Bills aren’t messing around this offseason
The Buffalo Bills aren’t messing around this offseason, and the rest of the league should pay attention. With new owners ,Terry and Kim Pegula, and a new coach in Rex Ryan, this team is functioning differently than it has in the past. That is a great sign to all Bills fans alike, even when surprises happen like they did yesterday.
In case you haven’t heard (chances are pretty slim), the Buffalo Bills have agreed to trade LB Kiko Alonso to the Philadelphia Eagles for RB Lesean “Shady” McCoy, in a player-for-player swap. I happened to be drinking some coffee at the moment that I saw Adam Schefter first report this story, and needless to say, the coffee did not stay in my mouth for any period of time, but rather was strewn about the floor. I think the first word that rolled off of my now coffee-free tongue was “WOW!” I didn’t know what else to say, honestly.
This news came out of the blue, though I had been hearing rumors that Buffalo wasn’t afraid to trade their stud rookie linebacker that was coming off of an ACL injury. I’m sad to see #LegendofKikoAlonso fly south (that’s what Ducks do for winter, right?) to Philadelphia, but Lesean McCoy will be a welcome addition for a team and coach that are planning on using a ground-and-pound attack. It will also be an addition that allows for Buffalo to increase its time of possession, assuming that McCoy can be productive with a lesser offensive line in Buffalo.
But wait, there’s more….
It was just recently announced (within the hour) that the Bills and Vikings have worked out a trade that would send QB Matt Cassel to Buffalo along with a draft pick, in exchange for a couple of future draft picks from the Bills.
Buffalo will finally have a veteran quarterback to help provide an influence for their existing quarterback, E.J. Manuel. I know, the Bills had Kyle Orton at the helm during last season and he was a veteran quarterback, but Cassel will be here much longer I presume. This was just as shocking of a move as the McCoy trade, but Cassel should be a welcome addition in Buffalo.
Let me remind all of you that we haven’t even hit free agency yet, and that the NFL Draft hasn’t occurred either. This leads me to think that Buffalo is far from done this offseason, especially with these two events still looming.
Hey Buffalo, I hear that WR Andre Johnson wants out of the Houston Texans and we would love to have him.
