Buffalo Bills cut Mario Williams after 4 seasons
It’s been officially announced – the Buffalo Bills have released defensive-end Mario Williams. After four seasons with the team, Buffalo is effectively cutting ties with the 4-time Pro Bowler. At 31 years of age, the former standout brought some of his best seasons to Western New York’s favorite team. Notching 43 total sacks over his four years in Buffalo, Williams aided in the rejuvenation of a long-suffering fan base. Mario, along with the likes of Kyle Williams, Jerry Hughes and Marcell Dareus established a fearsome front-line, arguably the league’s best for a sustained period of time.
Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever. Whether it’s a bit of age creeping in, or the effects of a new coaching scheme, 2015 was Mario Williams’ least productive year. Playing in every game but one, he managed only 5 sacks. A formerly imposing player, it seemed even when on the field, his effect on the game wasn’t quite the same. Buffalo fans had come accustomed to a player who could consistently notch double-digit sacks, but this was no longer the case. In an era dominated by aerial offense, putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks has never been more essential.
Buffalo is moving on. In Rex Ryan’s second season as head coach, expectations are already heightened. After a disappointing debut, more progress needs to be made on a team that was supposed to improve. Rather than elevating a defense that had developed into one of the NFL’s very best, 2015 saw a huge regression. A massive step in the wrong direction. Surprisingly, Buffalo dropped into the middle of the pack on defensive, despite claims that an already solid defense would become even more fearsome.
It’s sad to think that Mario Williams is gone. For Buffalo fans it means more years have been wasted, another window of opportunity has shut. Without reaching the playoffs since 1999 – how much longer will Buffalo have to suffer?https://www.myfantasysportstalk.com/buffalo-bills-cut-mario-williams-after-4-seasons/https://i2.wp.com/www.myfantasysportstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Mario-Williams.jpg?fit=650%2C440&ssl=1https://i2.wp.com/www.myfantasysportstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Mario-Williams.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1AFC EastAnalysisBuffalo BillsFootballNews and UpdatesNFLRecent Posts#Bills,#Buffalo,#BuffaloBills,#MarioWilliams,#SuperMario,Buffalo Bills,NFLIt's been officially announced - the Buffalo Bills have released defensive-end Mario Williams.
