Strengths:

  • Very instinctive
  • Reliable four-year starter
  • Upper body strength
  • Reads quarterback’s eyes
  • Field vision is plus
  • Football IQ
  • Very efficient in space

Weaknesses:

  • Burst and explosion is lacking
  • Tightness throughout lower half
  • Lateral quickness leaves a lot to be desired
  • Will he be able to keep up with backs and tight ends in the NFL?
  • Questionable sideline-to-sideline speed

Analysis: Cameron Smith is a football player plain and simple. He might not have elite athletic traits, but he is very instinctive and just makes plays. His vision is one of the best of this LB class and he can see the play unfold before it happens. That allows him to get away with sub-par sideline-to-sideline speed and tightness in his lower half. He will be a steal in the middle rounds of the draft and whichever team selects him, the coaching staff will instantly fall in love. He will be a starter in the NFL and his value is hard to ignore.

Size: 6’2 238lbs

Draft Grade: 2nd round

NFL Comparison: No. 4 ILB

Draft Projection: Day 3 pick
