The San Francisco 49ers have added journeyman running back Reggie Bush to their roster. They are hoping that he can provide a spark in their offense that has lost RB Frank Gore, OG Mike Iupati, and most likely WR Michael Crabtree. The 49ers struggled offensively last season, and ranked 25th in points per game, 20th in total yards, 30th in passing yards per game, and 4th in rushing yards per game.

Jim Tomsula has taken over as head coach and the coaching staff looks nothing like it has in the last few years, which could pose problems in and of itself. They also have a new offensive coordinator in Geep Chryst, and I’m sure he’s hoping that he can kick the offense into four-wheel drive and improve on the dismal offense that the 49ers showed last year.

The addition of Bush should help by giving running back Carlos Hyde a breather. It will be interesting to see if Bush can stay healthy and make a positive impact on the offense, or if this will just be another short year due to the health issues that the injury-prone back has faced since coming out of USC.

I think a change of scenery for Reggie Bush, back to a familiar California setting, will help improve his production. But if he starts off slow and begins to hear boos from the crowd at Levi Stadium, expect the warm California sun to set on Bush’s career.
