Canelo vs GGG 2 Prediction
The time has finally come. Fight fans from all over the world will gather together on Saturday night because the biggest rivalry in combat sports this year is about to see its second show. Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2; 34 KOs) will take on Gennady Golovkin (38-0-1; 34 KOs), and the bad blood has boiled all the way to the weigh ins on Friday night.
Both orthodox stance fighters made weight. GGG weighed in at a few decimals under 160. This Middleweight showdown is for a pile of titles, literally. The IBO, WBA, WBC etc. are at stake on Saturday night, but both fighters ego’s and reputations are heavily on the line. The last fight between these two was brutal and purely entertaining for all fight fans, but it ended in a controversial draw. A re-match was scheduled for a Cinco de Mayo bout, but that was scrapped quickly as Canelo was popped for PEDS.
Since then, Canelo has finished his six-month suspension and a year later, this rivalry is far from dead. Both camps have even thrown some massive heat towards one another and Friday night at the weigh in, both camps with the fighters almost got into a brawl–so there’s definitely a new dynamic added to this fight.
Who wins and why
This fight could go either way. Both men are known as knockout artists and not shying away from putting themselves in the way of danger. However, as impressive as GGG looked, he is a year older and even in the first super fight he looked like he had lost a step compared to his previous fights. GGG definitely has the power to knock out Alvarez, but will he get gassed in the later rounds is the question.
For Alvarez with the whole drug use aside, he now knows that he’s capable of hanging with one of the top dogs in the sport and knows what he needs to change this time around in order to stop Golovkin. As long as Alvarez sticks to his game plan, and doesn’t find himself getting into a fury of punches with Golovkin, he should be able to come out with that huge victory that he keeps preaching about.
