Canisius vs FAU
The Canisius men’s basketball team will close out a three games in four-day stretch on Wednesday when the Golden Griffins play at FAU in Boca Raton, Fla., with game time set for 7 p.m. Wednesday’s game will be the Griffs’ final on-campus contest as part of the Boca Raton Beach Classic.
Both teams are coming off of losses in their last game–FAU dropped a 71-64 contest with St. Bonaventure and Canisius fell to Hofstra, 64-57.
In three of the Griffs’ four wins this season, three players have recorded double-figures in the scoring column, with the most recent occasion coming in the win over Mercer Sunday afternoon. In that game, junior Majesty Brandon and freshman Jacco Fritz scored 16 points, while senior Malik Johnson added 14 points to the winning effort.
Johnson was named to the Boca Raton Beach Classic All-Tournament Team on Monday after he averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in two games against Mercer and Hofstra. In the loss to Hofstra on Monday, he became just the third player in school history to dish out more than 450-career assists to go along with 150-plus steals.
FAU only features one player who averages double-figures–senior guard Cornelius Taylor with 12.9 points per game. When he scores more than 15 points, the Owls are undefeated this season.
As a team, FAU is averaging 73.4 points per game on 41.8% shooting from the field, 34.2% from behind the arc and 65.7% from the foul line this season.
