CBB: Howard vs Robert Morris Preview and Prediction
College basketball season is here–and as we have done for the last few years, MFST will be previewing and predicting the winners of all of the games each day. We pride ourselves on our love for the mid-majors, so you can count on us for all of your game previews and analysis. This year, we will be keeping track on our picks against the spread–the last two years we have had better than a 50% pick-rate ATS. Let’s make the 2019-20 season the most profitable yet…
Howard vs Robert Morris Preview
The Howard Bison (0-3) take on the Robert Morris Colonials (0-3) in an early afternoon affair at Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio as a part of the Men Against Breast Cancer Classic.
Robert Morris has run through the gauntlet in their early non-conference slate taking on teams like Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Marshall. Obviously, sitting at 0-3 they have not won any of those games, but they battled hard. Against Pittsburgh, they fought to a halftime tie. The score was 27-27 entering the second half where the Panthers (2-1) hit their first five shots from the floor and also went 5-for-5 at the free-throw line in putting together a 16-6 run to open up a 43-33 lead. Trey McGowens scored eight points during the surge for Pitt, while Ryan Murphy added five. RMU was able to whittle its deficit to 44-37 after a jumper from guard Jalen Hawkins, but a 14-6 spurt opened up a 58-43 advantage for the Panthers.
They executed some offense really well, and we ended up being behind, unfortunately, on too many possessions that allowed them to build their lead, head coach Andrew Toole said. I thought we had some good looks offensively that we didn’t make. (Terrell) Brown was really the difference in the game. His ability to protect the rim made it really hard for our guys to finish around the basket.
Robert Morris finished with 16 assists on its 22 field goals as brothers Josh Williams and Jon Williams combined for 10 dimes. Josh finished with a team-high 12 points for the Colonials and also registered four rebounds and three steals.
Howard has had even less success on the court this season, losing to Washington Adventist, George Washington and Notre Dame. Unlike Robert Morris, the games have not been close and Howard has been outplayed at every level of the game.
Charles Williams leads the Bisons in scoring with 15.7 points per game, but has not looked like his efficient-self. Two years ago as a sophomore, Williams averaged over 20 points per contest and was shooting at a much higher rate. If Howard wants any chance at a victory, Williams will need to lead the way–more efficiently.
