CBB: Monmouth vs Lehigh Preview and Pick
College basketball season is here–and as we have done for the last few years, MFST will be previewing and predicting the winners of all of the games each day. We pride ourselves on our love for the mid-majors, so you can count on us for all of your game previews and analysis. This year, we will be keeping track on our picks against the spread–the last two years we have had better than a 50% pick-rate ATS. Let’s make the 2019-20 season the most profitable yet…
Monmouth vs Lehigh
This may not seem like an elite matchup–but with two mid-majors that have upset solid programs over the last few years, this game should be dazzling from start to finish. Lehigh is already getting their fans ready for the home opener.

Get to know Monmouth
Last year, the Hawks lost their first 12 games to open the 2018-19 season (highlighted by an opening night loss to this Lehigh squad, 85-61). Head coach King Rice was able to turn the season around which culminated in a 14-21 record but 10-8 in the MAAC–and they made it to the MAAC Tournament Final before falling to Iona.
The Hawks welcome back four of their top five leading scorers from a season ago including the backcourt duo of junior Ray Salnave (11.9 PPG) and Deion Hammond (11.8 PPG). Salnave and Hammond were preseason All-MAAC second team selections and Monmouth as a team was picked to finish fourth in the MAAC–a conference MFST knows well.
How will Monmouth come out this season after taking one on the chin for the first two months of the season last year? Not only are they looking for revenge against this Lehigh team that dismantled them last season, but most of the pieces of the squad that dealt with those 12-straight losses return, and they won’t want that to happen again.
Get to know Lehigh
Lehigh is predicted to finish in the middle of the Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks lost several key players from last year’s team, which finished third in the league standings with a 12-6 mark (20-11 overall).
The team still returns a lot of talent as well, highlighted by senior and 2018 third team All-Patriot League honoree Jordan Cohen. Junior James Karnick also returns after tallying 11.4 points and 6.6 boards per contest in league play last year. Junior Marques Wilson, and sophomores Jeameril Wilson and Nic Lynch, also return after enjoying success over the course of their careers, along with senior Ed Porter. The Mountain Hawks welcome six freshmen to the 2019-20 squad.
