Best Bet

Wisconsin. If you asked me this two days ago, I would have went with Ohio State–but the whole Urban Meyer/assistant coach domestic violence scandal who knows how this will play out. Meyer placed on administrative leave, might not coach this season. Too many questions, and with a team like Wisconsin waiting in the wings–it’s theirs for the taking. It’ll take something amazing to keep the Badgers from getting to the title game from the West. The 11/4 odds aren’t wonderful for the value, but at least you’ll likely be alive on December 1st.

Value Play

Michigan State. The Spartans have to go to Penn State, but they miss Wisconsin and get Michigan and Ohio State in East Lansing. Four of the conference games are against teams that didn’t go bowling last year, but best of all, MSU is loaded with a team every bit as strong as the one that went to the College Football Playoff three years ago. 9/1 odds offer a big payday.

Shakiest Odds

Michigan. This could be one of the most talented Michigan teams in the Harbaugh era–but the schedule doesn’t help with trips to Northwestern, Michigan State and Ohio State. The quarterback situation should be settled with Shea Patterson (as long as he stops playing baseball)–but the Wolverines just haven’t been able to get over the hump. At 4/1 odds, there is better money to be made with similar risk.
