Group E is a fairly easy group to predict, but you never know what can happen in the Champions League.

Group E: FC Bayern Munich, SC Benfica, Ajax, AEK Athens

Bayern Munich have something to prove this year. After being knocked out by champions Real Madrid last season, Bayern are being criticized for not being able to get the job done, and their squad is one of the top in all of Europe, Germany regardless. Once again, that risk of criticism has never been higher. This is one group Bayern can’t lose, it’s too easy. There’s no doubt they will be on the top.

When it comes to second spot, Benfica and Ajax will likely be the teams fighting for it. Benfica’s strength has dwindled but still has enough attack to put a downer on their opponents in this group. What will be the most glaring hole is their depth and call up ability for the players to be able to carry the intensity off the bench that the starting lineup hopefully will have.

Ajax has much to play for. They got a boost in returning player Daley Blind, and with the loss of one of their players last season to a collapse on the field, this team will hold a fire in their hearts to play hard for him. They have a shot at the second spot if they manage a point from Bayern, and pull off wins against their other opponents. Benfica are their biggest obstacle besides the obvious.

AEK Athens don’t have a shot at the second spot, they don’t have the depth or talent to match Ajax and Benfica, let alone Bayern.

Stay tuned for Group F.
