As many, if not all of you know, Jeff Gordon retired from NASCAR after this past season. His career at the top of the racing circuit lasted 24 years. His first season only had one race, but in the following 23 he managed to compile 93 wins. He won four championships in that span. In those 23 full seasons, Gordon finished outside of the top 10 in the standings only once. He raced in a total of 797 events. All in all, those are seemingly impossible shoes to fill.

So who did Hendrick Motorsports look to as the new driver of their 24 Chevrolet?

Chase Elliott.

Chase Elliott is a 20-year-old driver who is entering his rookie campaign in NASCAR. Some of you may recognize his name from his father Bill Elliott who used to drive as well.

Chase started out racing local tracks before signing a developmental contract with Hendrick Motorsports in 2011. He spent a year on the Truck Series circuit before joining the Nationwide/Xfinity series.

Chase put together an extremely successful two-year tenure in that series. His first year, he went on to become the first rookie to win a NASCAR national series title. That was followed up in his second year with a second place finish in the standings.

Chase has already made headlines ahead of his Daytona 500 debut by being the youngest driver ever to claim the pole.

There is a huge potential for this young rookie, and with the success he has already experienced, the expectations are sky-high.
