Chelsea

It’s a tale of redemption.

Chelsea secured their title by defeating West Bromich Albion 1-0 on Friday. A winning goal from Michy Batshuayi in the 82nd minute was the winning recipe. Manager Antonio Conte was able to win his first title with the club in his first season with the team. Player of the Year midfielder N’golo Kante is the second player to win back to back Premier League titles with different clubs, his first with Leicester City.

Two years ago, former Chelsea and current Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho took Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2015. They brought virtually the same team to the field the next season. But loss after loss saw Chelsea fire Mourinho and finish 14th in the table. They were a laughingstock in the league, with many predicting they wouldn’t even finish in the Top 4 this year.

Conte righted the ship by changing the way Chelsea played the game. He’s a very enthusiastic manager. His antics and behavior are very over the top, and that energy is put right into the players. They played an aggressive and attacking brand of football. Conte converted Chelsea to a 3-4-3 formation. It played to the strengths of his players. It allowed Eden Hazard to flourish in the left wing role again. Player of the Year N’golo Kante fit right into the central midfield as a regular. The defensive back three was unsure at times with common mistakes coming from Gary Cahill and Co. but in the end they were a solid group that can only get better with tactical training and help in the transfer market.

Chelsea sealed the title with a fitting goodbye to legend John Terry, who is without doubt one of Chelsea’s and England’s greatest players of all time.
