Chris Sale strikes out 13 batters in return to game action
Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale suffered an avulsion fracture in his right foot back in February and has yet to pitch in an actual Cactus League game this spring. That changed on Wednesday, as Sale struck out 13 Reds minor leaguers in six plus innings, allowing two hits, one being a home run. In his first game action Sale looked solid and had great command on his pitches, not registering a walk in the contest.
Sale is on track to make his season debut April 12th at home against the division-rival Minnesota Twins. This is great news for the White Sox who feared they could lose Sale for the first two months of the season. With Sale missing the first week, Jeff Samardzija will be the White Sox opening day starter, only a year removed when he was the cross-town rival Cubs opening day starter.
If Sale can produce anything like his numbers in 2014, he will be in consideration for yet another Cy-Young award (finished 3rd in voting last season).
